Columbus, Ohio This new facility is a 560,000 s.f., 19,500-seat basketball/hockey arena which is home to The Ohio State University's men's and women's basketball teams and NCAA Final Four hockey team. The $75 million facility is also used for various entertainment and performance events. Resource surveyed this approximate 50-acre site to determine boundary, right-of-way and location of existing utilities. A topographic survey and final mapping of the site was provided for civil design. Due to the site's proximity to the Olentangy River, a hydrogeological study was conducted by Resource to study to influence of the river on the groundwater elevation, which was critical during construction. A subsurface investigation was also conducted for providing foundation and pavement design recommendations and recommendations for backfill, dewatering and construction considerations. In order to open the facility on time for the Fall of 1998 and start of the college basketball season, the construction was fast-track. Resource provided the quality control inspection and testing services during construction, which included inspection of approximately 400 caissons, 21,000 cubic yards of concrete, rebar, and structural steel; soils compaction of subbase and backfill; rebar inspection; fireproofing inspection and density and adhesion testing; and masonry and asphalt paving inspection. |
