Resource is currently
evaluating conditions for 94 bridge decks using Ground Penetrating Radar
(GPR) for Ohio Department of Transportation District 6. This efficient
and high-speed means non-destructive testing and evaluation is being completed
on bridges located throughout Franklin, Delaware, Fayette, Madison, Marion,
Morrow, Pickaway and Union Counties.
The field data is
collected by use of a survey vehicle equipped with two pulse antennas,
a distance-measuring instrument and three-camera alignment system. Plan
sheets are being prepared for each bridge deck to identify and summarize
delaminations as a percent of the total deck area. GPR findings are used
to:
• Investigate
possible bridge deck deterioration
• Identify and quantify areas of deterioration
• Detect the condition of each layer of rebar
The Bridge Deck evaluation
reports, which include estimated quantities for full depth and partial
deck repair, are then used to prioritize funding for the most critical
structures.
