Fire protection and other utility accesses had to be drilled into 12" concrete walls after the concrete placement of the wall was completed. Engineers determined that the structural integrity of the hospital would be unacceptably weakened if any rebar was severed. GPR was used to nondestructively identify reinforcement bar location within the floor and vertical walls in 40 locations. The accesses were successfully drilled with no rebar being struck. Each survey location was completed in about 20 minutes with results posted immediately.
