PMS 4.0 for Windows with GIS interface emerged to fulfill the demand management of roadway networks for city and rural authorities. Over the past 25 years, Resource International, Inc. (Rii), has developed and installed infrastructure management systems of many levels of sophistication on a variety of platforms.
Our PMS 4.0 software develops three separate files containing information about the pavement system: the inventory file, the maintenance history file, and the pavement condition file. The inventory file defines the physical configuration of the roadway/street system and contains such information as segment lengths, pavement widths, traffic volumes, functional classification, and other physical parameters. The maintenance history file contains data on the major maintenance activities that have been performed on each roadway segment. The pavement condition file contains the results from the field evaluation of the condition of the roadway/street system.
Once these files are complete, the management system can be used. PMS 4.0 uses a prioritization system developed by Rii based on Maintenance Urgency Categories (MUC). MUC are defined in terms of route type, drainage, date of the most recent maintenance project, traffic, functional class, and the visual or automated Pavement Condition Rating (PCR). The system recommends and prioritizes specific maintenance actions based on MUC, and appropriate maintenance strategies. Maintenance alternatives and criteria for their use (in terms of pavement type and functional class) are based on current industry practices.
In addition, PMS 4.0 uses the latest relational data base design and modeling methodologies for rapid access and querying, programming, modularity, and future enhancement. The reporting scheme is quite simple. Reports can be generated by choosing standard reports or specifying fields that pertain to the desired projects. The system's modular design allows the integration of MAP/GIS and PMSGRAPH to provide enhanced graphical reports and system performance feedback. The PMS 4.0 for Windows version software comes with preloaded GIS information abstracted from Tiger Files. This assists the user in creating the streets and roadway database automatically.
