Going Green
The concept of ‘green’ roadways and buildings is sweeping the nation. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is growing in importance for communities and its initiative for including green elements in its construction projects. The U.S. Green Building Council is the nation’s foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.

In an effort to become more environmentally friendly, Resource International is always looking for ways to use new ‘green’ technology.

Staff LEED Accreditation
Rii is committed to the LEED® program. To date, we have six LEED accredited professionals on staff.  Our goal is to have our entire civil and construction management personnel LEED accredited by the end of 2008.

The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. Members of the U.S. Green Building Council representing all segments of the building industry developed LEED and continue to contribute to its evolution.

Rii’s Internal Green Initiatives
Rii is conscientious about making the world a ‘greener’ place. In addition to our employees becoming LEED accredited to benefit the green initiatives of our clients, we have implemented several practices internally to do our part.

Rii has teamed up with SWACO (Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio) in starting a recycling program in the Columbus office. This includes recycling of all paper products including junk mail, blueprints, printouts, paper clips, and staples. In addition, Rii purchases recycled paper products for everyday use in projects we perform for our clients.

Rii has also incorporated the use of synthetic oil in our fleet and field vehicles, which promotes greater engine efficiencies and reduces the number of oil changes, providing for waste reduction and energy conservation.

In addition, Rii is initiating a program to modify its existing lighting systems to use more energy efficient bulbs as an energy conservation and cost savings measure. More energy efficient tinting on windows has been added as well.

Also by incorporating the use of web-based collaboration project management software tools, a more paperless project can be maintained.
